UPDATE - 9-23-20

September 23, 2020

New London-Spicer Families and Staff,

The MSHSL Board of Directors held a special meeting Monday to reconsider placement of the fall activities seasons, most specifically volleyball and football.  NL-S Administration advocated for the return to a traditional well-balanced academic setting with activity participation and competition. Initial research has shown low community spread through local activity participation when guidelines are followed.  We also know activity participation is an important factor in the overall physical and emotional well being of high school students. By a 14-4 vote, the MSHSL Board of Directors approved moving football and volleyball back to fall seasons.

A list of calendar adjustments below:

Football - Practice begins on Sept. 28. First contest will be on Oct. 9, six games total.  MEA game will be played Friday, October 16.  The district schedule is being re-done and will be shared with families soon. Winter sports calendar will be determined at the October 1 MSHSL Board of Directors meeting. Families will be notified through Parent Portal and schedule updates will be posted on our Activity website.

Activities Director, John Vraa said, “Adjustments to schedules will begin immediately.  Also to be determined are the potential schedules for lower levels of football and volleyball.  At this time, there will be no fans allowed indoors and a maximum of 250 fans for outdoor activities.  We will look at best practices from schools who have been hosting soccer to determine ticketing, fan entry, social distancing, masking, etc., for our home football games.”
